Welcome to Weekend Adventurers

I’m here for one simple reason: to help you make the most of your time outdoors. Whether you’re tackling the UK’s highest peaks or just taking a ride down your local trail, Weekend Adventurers is packed with guides, advice, and reviews to fuel your next adventure.

I call it Weekend Adventurers because “spare time adventurers” didn’t have quite the same ring to it. But whether it’s a weekend escape or a cheeky midweek microadventure, it’s all about getting outside whenever you can.

What To Expect From Weekend Adventurers

From beginner’s guides to weekend trip ideas, gear reviews to tips and tricks, I’ve got you covered. I focus on hiking, mountain biking, camping, and kayaking – the activities that get my heart racing – but you’ll find plenty more. While I’m based in the UK and love its National Parks, mountains, and coastline, I occasionally venture beyond – because who doesn’t love a long weekend in the Alps?

Who’s Behind Weekend Adventurers?

I’m Rob Haggan, a husband, father, and, yes, a weekend adventurer. I run this blog from a tiny spare room in Warwickshire or from whatever coffee shop can serve up a decent flat white.

I’ve been hiking and biking since I was a kid, growing up near Cannock Chase with the Peak District just an hour away. These days, living in one of the flattest counties in the country, I’ve got to work a bit harder to find my wild places – but the effort’s always worth it.

A Bit About Me

My favourite hiking spot? The Peak District. It’s not the biggest or boldest place in the world, but it’s where I cut my teeth, and it’ll always have a soft spot in my heart.

If I could live anywhere, I’d pick Queenstown, New Zealand. I lived there for a year in 2015, and if it weren’t so far from family, I’d probably still be there.

I used to be mad about mountain biking, blasting around trail centres as quickly as I could. These days, now I’m in my early forties, I’m not quite as fast as I used to be and tend to plan my routes around where I can stop for a rest, a coffee, and a bacon butty. Priorities, right?
